RSS Feeds - The best way to keep up with websites
What's an RSS Feed?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS feeds are a way for websites to distribute new content as it becomes available. RSS alerts you to a website's newest headlines and features.
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter.
Think of an RSS feed as a file that contains a blog or website's most recent entries. By subscribing to a site's feed, you will automatically be notified when that website contains new posts or entries.
Instead of checking sites repeatedly for updates or receiving too many email newletters, RSS feeds bring your favorite websites to you!
How can I read RSS Feeds?
You need a free RSS "aggregator" or reader. Some readers run on your desktop and are as easy to use as common e-mail software, while others are web-based.
Here are some my favorite reader options:
- Google Reader - pretty easy to set up & use and you probably already have a Google account (like Gmail, Picasa, iGoogle). This is a web based reader - which means you go to www.google.com/reader
- FeedDemon – this is a desktop application that runs similar to MS Outlook. This is a great program that can be used "as-is" but is also very customizable
When you see it on a website, clicking will usually direct you to that site's feed.
From there, you can either copy and paste the link to subscribe to the feed in Reader, or in the case of many browsers, click a button to subscribe directly.You can also subscribe directly from RSS Reader, like in Google Reader, it will offer you some suggestions of feeds you might be interested in following.
RSS Feeds are great for freebie hunting, coupons & promos, employment searches, news, financial/stocks, parenting suggestions...basically any site you find yourself visiting frequently would be great. Also, any topic your interested in, like tech & electronics, gardening, politics are great to keep up with by RSS feeds.

Obviously you don't have to do this and I try to only post offers that are legit and don't think they'll spam you.It is nice to do this early on, especially Facebook since they've made it more complicated to un-like a page.

Target frequently offers some great freebies (usually beauty related). The site/app is running very slowly, so please be patient and refresh as needed.

PLEASE be patient any time this happens when a company is trying to give products away. It bothers me so much when people start whining & complaining about issues like this and suggesting that companies need to pay for better servers. It may be a hassle, but just refresh the page every once in awhile. And if that's not an option for you, than just skip this promo and try to be grateful that at least companies offer these types of freebies

I'm super excited about the Allure freebies this month!
Today they've got ERACLEA LITE AND BRITE for the 1st 500 to sign up at noon EST.

These work because I usually win all or almost all every month (not uncommon to get hundred+ dollars of stuff every month).
The main things to winning Allure freebies is to create an account ahead of time and make sure your logged in. Go to the entry form before noon and make sure all forms are filled in, most will automatically be entered if your logged in, but make sure the birthday, subscription choice, and then the 4 yes/no questions at the bottom are completed.
Then you'll want to have a clock that displays seconds and is synced to/displaying atomic clock. You can either open a tab in web browser with atomic clock (this one needs Java enabled or you have to manually refresh) or you can sync your computer's clock and then open it to display seconds (check out the above blog post if you have questions about how to do this).
This may seem more complicated than it actually is and once you've done this once or twice, you'll likely find that it only takes less than 1-2 minutes. The payoff for those couple of minutes is awesome! Some really great high end beauty products.
